CEG-1     Site Characterization/Sampling Techniques

In Split-Barrel Sampling, the hollow tube is driven into the ground with a 140-lb hammer falling 30”. At what depth intervals is the number of hammer strikes recorded?

CEG-2     Soil Mechanics, Laboratory Testing, and Analysis/Strength Testing of Soil and Rock

What is the Pore Water Pressure 3 feet below ground if the groundwater level is 18” below ground. Soil density = 125 lbs/ft3 and water density = 62.4 lbs/ft3.

CEG-3     Field Materials Testing, Methods, and Safety/Geotechnical Instrumentation

An inclinometer is an instrument used to measure the angle of a slope with respect to __________.

CEG-4     Earthquake Engineering and Dynamic Loads/Liquefaction Analysis and Mitigation Techniques

Which of the following is not a method of reducing liquefaction potential?

CEG-5     Earth Structures/Landfills and Caps

The contaminated liquid that occurs as a result of water (or other liquids) percolating through a landfill is known as:

CEG-6     Groundwater and Seepage/Seepage Analysis/Groundwater Flow

“Spillways are hydraulic structures typically used to control overflows in dams. The crest shape of a spillway is one of the most important design features of an overflow spillway. These shapes coincide with the lower water profile of an aerated nappe over a sharp-crested weir. The purpose of this shape is to _____________ on the spillway, which may cause severe damages to its surface.”

CEG-7     Problematic Soil and Rock Conditions/Karst; Collapsible, Expansive, and Sensitive Soils

Karst areas are where _____ and other soluble rocks have dissolved creating sinkholes, caves, disappearing streams, and uneven topography.

CEG-8     Earth Retaining Structures (ASD or LRFD)/Lateral Earth Pressure

The foundation wall shown is to be shored before collapse. If the load on the foundation wall shown is 3 kips and the wall is 16 feet tall, what is the moment at the base of the wall to be resisted?

CEG-9     Shallow Foundations (ASD or LRFD)/Bearing Capacity

A slab on grade is a type of foundation that transfers building loads to the earth __________.

CEG-10    Deep Foundations (ASD or LRFD)/Lateral Load and Deformation Analysis

Which of the following is a type of drilled shaft foundation?

Working through as many sample questions as possible during your preparation for the Civil Engineering Geotechnical PE Exam is critical to your success. You have to see sample questions on every topic covered by the exam and be able to solve them using the available tools.

Every year we talk to people who’ve taken the exam and admitted they took problem solving too lightly. They focused more on gathering resources and only working a few example problems.

Once in the exam, they soon realized that although the questions looked familiar, they didn’t have the knowledge or ability to work the majority of questions.

That’s where EngineeringDesignResources.com can help in your preparations.

EngineeringDesignResources.com has been providing PE Exam preparation resources since 2013. Our sample questions, practice problems, review course, etc. cover every topic listed on the NCEES.org website.

We are constantly looking for new ways to provide the information you need through resources, links,  and improved practice problems. We also update our resources several times a year based on feedback we receive from past examinees.

Your alternative is to sit through a program offered by other PE Exam companies or by local colleges/universities. Most of these programs spend a great deal of time going through theory, basic math concepts, or so-called “shortcuts”. But they spend very little time having you work the number of problems that EngineeringDesignResources.com does through our  additional FREE resources.

If there is anything I can do to help you prepare for the exam, please do not hesitate to ask.
